4 classes coming to Minnesota High School Baseball in 2016!

At the MSHSL Board of Directors meeting on October 2nd, 2014 two MSHSBCA initiatives were approved.  These items were pursued based on the feedback from MSHSBCA members over the past three years.

The first, and most significant change, was the move to a 4 class playoff system effective in the spring of 2016.  Here are some of the important components of the proposal:

                a.  Classes will be divided based on school enrollment:  Top 64(AAAA), next 64(AAA), even split of the rest in AA, and A.

                b.  Full consolation in the State Tournament.

                c.  Double elimination from 8 teams on in section tournament.  This is according to board policy that was created a few years back.

                d.  Sites that will be utilized:  CHS Field(Saints Stadium), Siebert, St. Cloud, Chaska, Jordan, and a site to be named for consolation.  One other site will be needed for one day for consolation play.

                e.  All four championship games remain at Target Field for the Championship Series with games starting at 10, 1, 4, and 7.

Modified P/DH rule was also approved by the board.  This means that the MSHSL will be pursuing an exemption from NFHS to implement this rule in Minnesota in the spring of 2015. This will be on an experimental basis.

Again, a great day for Minnesota High School Baseball, thanks to everyone who had a hand in all of this.  See you at the Wilkens Clinic in a couple of weeks!
