The MSHSBCA met on February 17th to discuss upcoming items impacting Minnesota High School Baseball.

On Tuesday February 17th, the MSHSBCA Advisory Board met and discussed various items.  The meeting synopsis is as follows:

  1. Discussed upcoming rule changes to baseball for the 2015 season with Associate MSHSL Director Kevin Merkle.  Among the items will be the P/DH rule change that will be used on an experimental basis in Minnesota the next two years.  Based on feedback that will be gathered from our membership during and after the season, this could be a 3 year experiment, and possibly permanent.  More detailed information will be released later.
  2. Discussed the 4 class tournament and sites for 2016.  Main sites will be CHS Field(St. Paul Saints Stadium), Siebert Field, St. Cloud, Chaska, and Jordan.
  3. Additional discussion item centered around ways to expand the season, with dates or games.  More information will be forthcoming.
  4. After meeting concluded on MSHSL items, the Advisory Board meeting followed.
  5. Advisory board voted to expand the Play Ball MN! All-Star Series from 4 teams to 6 teams starting in 2016.  Team rosters will be made up of 20 players and 3 coaches.  The rationale was simple, to include more players to this largely successful event as our sport continues to grow and expand.  Teams will be re-sectioned by a committee in the coming months.  The event will be held at Chaska and Chanhassen.
  6. Discussion item was wood bats.  This will continue to be explored.  Membership favored wood bats 56% to 44% in a fall 2014 survey on www.mshsbca.org.  Further data needed.
