Section Coach of the Year Suggested Criteria

MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION

SECTION COACHES OF THE YEAR

SELECTION/VOTING CRITERIA

 

The following are options to selection Section Coaches of the Year.

 1.     Sections may choose to name Section Coach of the Year based on who wins the Section Championship.  Only criteria is that the coach must be a member of MSHSBCA.

OR

2.     Sections may use the following criteria to cast a vote:

·         Submit a vote to your Section Representative consider the following criteria.

·         Is the coach a member of the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association? (mandatory, list of coaches who are members of the association available at www.mshsca.org, click on members tab.

·        Did the coach display good sportsmanship throughout the season?

o   Does the team display good sporting behavior?

·        Based on your observations of the individual coach; did the coach display high ethical and moral character?

·        How did the coach’s team perform this season? Played better than expected, worse than expected, or about what you thought the team would be do?

o   Did the coach’s team improve its performance and/or record from the previous year?

·        The coach’s team’s won/loss record for the season.

·        How did the coach’s team finish in their Section Tournament?

·        Did the coach’s team advance to the State Tournament?

·        Has the coach made other contributions to the betterment of Minnesota High School Baseball?

o     (Is the coach active in MSHSBCA?  Attends meetings and annual clinic?  Willing to serve on committees?).

·        Other criteria to consider:

§        Years of service.

§        Overall coaching record(if known).

§        Professional relationships with the other high school coaches.

§        Tactical and teaching expertise in regards to baseball.

 

This list is not meant to be an all-inclusive way of selecting a Section Coach of the Year.  This is simply designed as a starting point to select the coach of the year in each respective section.   Your willingness to participate in the selection process is crucial to the integrity and the meaning of these coaching awards that the MSHSBCA awards to its members. Thank you for taking the time to objectively and fairly evaluate your fellow coaches.  This is a great way to honor your peers for their hard work, dedication to the sport, and success!

 

Coaches will be recognized with a plaque at the John Wilkens Minnesota High School Baseball Fall Clinic Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday October 25, 2014.
