Joe Mauer Award

The Joe Mauer Award will be given annually to a Minnesota high school baseball player who participated in three sports during their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior years of high school.  

Mauer is one of the greatest three-sport athletes in the history of Minnesota high school sports, graduating from Cretin-Derham Hall in 2001.  Mauer is being inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in July, 2024.  He is a first-ballot Hall of Famer!

During his senior year, he was National Player of the Year in football as a quarterback, National Player of the Year in baseball as a catcher, and All-State in basketball.

The award embodies the qualities of Joe Mauer’s high school career, including participation, skill, accomplishments, awards, academics, citizenship, and moral character.

2025 Joe Mauer Award Winner - Jack Meyers - Cannon Falls High Schools

Here are some of the awards and accomplishments for this year's winner.  First, his coach Bucky Lindow had this to say about Jack, in all three sports, Jack has always been present. Whether it be staying after practice for extra work, doing field work and ballpark improvements, offseason training, youth camps, etc.. He can always be counted on and has been gifted with great ability. Like Joe Mauer, Jack does not take it for granted, is always humbly striving to reach excellence."

His accomplishments:

  • Football: 4 year starter (all 4 years shut down CB). Two year two-way starter. All Section, All District, School career interception leader(14), 26 passes knocked down, team leader in receptions and TD receptions, two time Section champs and one time Section runner up. Captain.
  • Basketball: 4 year varsity letterwinner. Most improved, Hustle Award, Team Award, All Conference Honorable Mention, 136 career steals, 640 career rebounds. Section runner up. Captain.
  • Baseball: 5 year starter and letterwinner. All Conference and All Section three times, and All State three times.  In the school record book he is top three in innings pitched, Saves, Victories, Strike Outs, Stolen Bases, RBIs and Doubles.  Started in Centerfield in 8th grade. Moved to Shortstop his junior year. He could play any position on the field. Coach Lindow noted the following:  "As a sophomore he turned in one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. We needed to beat LaCrescent twice to advance to the state tournament. Jack pitched game one (7 innings) using only 67 pitches and we won 3-1. Then he went 5 innings in the next game and ended with 115 pitches for the day. We won the second game 3-0 and had the section title. His total line for the day: 12 IP, 2 W, 1 unearned run, 7 H, 10 K. "
