I am writing this note to let you know that the MSHSBCA Advisory Board has been meeting
(thru conference calls) periodically to discuss our current baseball season and other matters.
We have been in contact with Bob Madison at the MSHSL office and John Schumacher at the MSHSCA.
John and the MSHSCA is doing all they can to help spring coaches get full pay. They have talking points to use in discussions with your superintendent and board. If interested, email me and I
can forward them.
Currently, there is no practice/contact with your players through May 4 th . We are anxiously waiting for Governor Walz’s next announcement concerning all spring sports. If you have
questions concerning what you can and cannot do with your athletes I suggest contacting your athletic director for his guidance.
There are many ideas being discussed concerning what our spring baseball season will look like when given the ok to play. Ultimately, this decision will be made by the MSHSL, but we are
confident the MSHSBCA will have a voice in what our season will look like.
If you have questions, concerns, or ideas please contact a member of the advisory board. These people can be located at the mshsbca.org website.
As we continue through this difficult time remember your players are also struggling. Stay in contact and offer support, individual practice ideas, inspiring videos, and hope to your athletes.
Many schools are turning on the lights at baseball fields in support of the 2020 senior class and spring athletes. “Be the Light MN” is the motto.
I urge you to contact the appropriate
school/city officials to see if you can turn your lights on. See more at John’s Journal at the
MSHSL website or checkout Twitter to see what schools are doing.
Don Gawreluk, Past President of the MSHSBCA, is doing a fantastic job of interviewing baseball coaches around the state of MN. Currently, Don has four Podcasts, which you can access at the
mshsbca.org website. These podcasts have great discussions about the state of baseball in MN.
Again, the MSHSBCA Advisory Board is here to help you! Please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have. Prayers to you and your families – stay safe!
Rick Zollner – President MSHSBCA
